Mehdi Mekni (PhD) Founder of LASER, Professor

Dr. Mehdi Mekni is a professor of Computer Science and Cybersecurity at the University of New Haven. He built an international professional career including various research, development, and management positions. His academic career includes computing-related program coordination and curricula design and assessment. Dr. Mekni has been actively contributing to broadening participation from diverse groups of students.

He also works as a Research Assistant with Dr. Mehdi Mekni. Presently as a part of LASER, he is conducting his research project on Smart GAIT Analysis and its applicability in security systems.

Ramya is a Graduate student pursuing her masters in Computer Science at the University of New Haven. She has received the TCoE endowed scholarship from the university and is currently working as a Research Assistant under Dr. Mehdi Mekni. She has more than three years experience from Amazon and Accenture. Currently, as a part of the LASER team, she is working on BCI (brain-computer interface) using Emotiv and VR devices which generates EEG brain signals to interact with games and compare metrics with traditional systems and also Secure cloud provisioning project which helps the users to rectify their vulnerabilities in the code.

Shannon Russell is a Black-African woman pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Game Development/Design. She attended New York City College of Technology before transferring to the University of New Haven. Shannon has been working in the field since August 2020, learning many programming languages such as Python, HTML, CSS, C, C++, and C#. Russell, always striving to be the best she can be, always lends a helping hand, offering as much assistance as she can. Not only is she a student, but also an alumnus of Girls Who Code and Code Nation. In addition, she is a representative of her university's Computer Programming Club and a TCoE Ambassador.
